“CJI Ramana” in his speech at the India-Singapore Mediation Summit 2021 remarked that India has a court backlog of over 45 million cases. The National Judicial Data Grid records that as of July 2022, more than 4 crore and 19 lakh cases are pending before the district courts. Whereas the High Courts, as of July 2022, have over 59 Lakh pending cases pending before them. Bringing the combined number of pending civil cases at the high court and the district court level to a gaping 1 crore 49 lakhs (approx.) The Supreme Court of India as well has seen a constantly increasing backlog of cases wherein the current number of pending cases stands at 71,411 (as of August’22).

FINRA noted that from June 2021 to June 2022 about 339 (89%) of the 428 cases in agreement, were settled in a turnaround time of 112 days through the process of mediation.
